Background: A diaper is a type of underwear that allows the wearer to urinate or defecate without the use of a toilet, by absorbing or containing waste products to prevent soiling of outer clothing or the external environment. Nowadays parents are more prone to use diaper for safety, preserve valuable time and in order to maintain neat and clean to their children. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in November to January 2020 among patients visited at kedarnath medical hall. After proper consent, we asked 12 questions regarding diaper. Result: Of the total 300, 97% of them were females. The median age for the study population was 2.5 years (range 0 -5). Regarding literacy, 22.5% were illiterate 19.2 % had primary education, 26.3% vocational education, 23.4 were high school graduates, 8.6 % had a university degree. Almost two-thirds of participants were living in urban areas out of them maximum participants were from village area. There were 12.1% patients who described their socioeconomic status as high, 42.8% as moderate, and 45.1% as low. Among them 35.6% were employed, 2.1%retired, 42.3 unemployed, the rest was supported financially by others.45% were having UTI due to less hygiene maintain and majority parents did not have proper idea about diaper, among them 98 % were baby girls. Conclusion: Diaper is one of the major causing of UTI and diaper rashes in children mainly to baby girls owing to less hygiene and lack of knowledge regarding diaper. Parents were using diaper for their easiness rather than proper using of diaper. I found it was wet rather than dry and they don’t have time to look after the condition of diaper. So it should be use properly to decrease the cause of UTI as chronic kidney disease (CKD) |
