Ethical considerations are required for care and treatment of elderly patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). ESKD patients in terminal state usually have a difficulty to make decisions between dialysis and palliative care. Healthcare providers must respect the patient's autonomy to allow them to make informed decisions about their care. Providers must also consider the patient's cultural background and religious beliefs as well as their wishes and values. Supportive or palliative care can play an important role in improving the quality of life for elderly ESKD patients in a terminal state. Providers must also be aware of the potential for discrimination against elderly ESKD patients and must work to ensure that they receive equal access to care and treatment. Overall, ethical considerations for the care and treatment of elderly ESKD patients in a terminal state require a thoughtful and holistic approach that prioritizes the patient's well-being and dignity. |
