제목	Board struggle does it equip dialysis patients for life struggle? -a pilot study.

초록	Objectives: To study the effect of Intradialytic Chess (accompanied by interdialytic training) on psychomotor speed and Executive functions in patients of chronic kidney disease on Maintenance dialysis. Methods: Materials and methods -Methodology: 19 patients were included in the study. After ruling out clinical dementia patients were subjected to a 30 min session by the co-investigator. A functioning tablet/mobile was assessed and Online app was downloaded in their tablet(chees.com/Lichess.com). Overview of intervention Baseline function was assessed, psychomotor speed was measured by Trail Making Tests A and B (TMTA and TMTB), and executive function was assessed by subtracting (TMTB TMTA). They were asked to play at least 3 games of min 5 min time limit during each dialysis session Monthly training sessions and reinforcement sessions were done For the convenience of the study, we label the intervention used in our study as ICIT (intradialytic chess + interdialytic training) approach. Subjects were asked to play at least 3 games of min 5 to 30 min (depending upon patient choice) during each dialysis session. 3months later patients psychomotor and Executive function were assessed .In our study Part A was used to assess psychomotor speed and both the TMT-B and the TMT DELTA (TMTB -TMTA) were used as measures of executive function. Results: 23 patients were included in study and 19 patients participated. After 3 months there was a significant improvement in Psychomotor function and Executive function as assessed by TMTA and TMTB-TMTA.TMT tot was decreased by 13.7 seconds (P value<0.05). TMT delta which is an indicator of Executive function also showed improvement of 8.6 seconds. Conclusions: Our study concludes that ICIT helps improve psychomotor and executive function in patients who already have a basic knowledge of chess.Hence ICIT(Intradialytic chess with interdialytic trainning can be used to improve cognitive function in patients on haemodialysis
