Sepsis-associated AKI is defined with AKI diagnosis by KDIGO criteria within 7days of sepsis diagnosis by Sepsis-3 criteria. Sepsis-induced AKI is a subphenotype of sepsis associated-AKI in which sepsis is the predominant driver of tissue damage. Sepsis-associated AKI shows unacceptably high mortality when renal replacement therapy is required. The pathophysiology of sepsis-associated AKI is complicated and several promising drugs evaluated by basic research have failed to be translated to the clinical. Recently, two new drugs were evaluated for sepsis-associated AKI; angiotensin II and recombinant human alkaline phosphatase. Although the effects of these drugs were not clearly demonstrated by randomized controlled trials, some promising results were reported. |
