초록 Chronic kidney disease (CKD), a major public health issue worldwide, increases all aspects of disease burden as well as mortality. The Korean Society of Nephrology (KSN) recognized the current threat to kidney health in Korea in the following three aspects; 1) a progressive increase in the prevalence of CKD and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD); 2) an increase of the proportion of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), which is the most common cause of ESKD in Korea; and 3) a decrease in the proportion of home therapy, especially peritoneal dialysis (PD). Kidney Health Plan (KHP) 2033 is a visionary health initiative declared by KSN to improve public kidney health. The objective of KHP 2033 is to lead a healthy society through the improvement of public kidney health by means of active prevention, treatment, and management of CKD, and thereby reduction of socioeconomic burden and enhancement of patient-centered treatment. KHP 2033 aims to raise the awareness of kidney health among the general population and reduce the projected number of CKD cases by 10% over the next ten years by 2033. Additionally, it aims to decrease the proportion of ESKD caused by DKD by 10% and increase the proportion of patients with ESKD treated with home therapy, including PD and Kidney transplantation, by up to 33%. In this talk, as a background for KHP 2033, the current state of CKD, DKD and ESKD in Korea as well as current trajectory on home therapy, will be summarized. In addition, mission and action plans for KHP 2033 along with the progress since its declaration in April, 2023 will be presented.
