초록 Disparities in access to kidney transplantation in the US have been reported for centuries. The majority of the reported disparities have been found among racial and ethnic groups. For example, patients who identify as Black or African American, Hispanic/Latine/a/o, and those from Indigenous groups experience disproportionate amounts of disease burden relative to their White counterparts (USRDS, 2024). This disparity is also manifested in the treatment options available, with lower rates of kidney transplantation, the preferred form of renal replacement therapy among Black, Indigenous, and Latine/a/o patients in comparison to White patients (USRDS, 2023). Contributing factors include, insurance issues, financial constraints, lack of referrals, and medical mistrust (Dageforde et al., 2015; Lockwood et al., 2017; Nonterah et al., 2023). This underscores the importance of equitable practices to help reduce disparities in order to facilitate access to transplantation for all. This talk will highlight the importance of an equity framework for reducing disparities. Moreover, this talk seeks to demonstrate how a proposed equity framework could be adapted and used within an Asian context.
