The purpose of the ISN Renal Disaster Preparedness Working Group (RDPWG) is to formulate preparedness plans for situations where there is disruption in the delivery of renal related services in a country or region and to guide ISN in its advisory role in such situations. The group has lent support in the aftermath of Natural disasters, such as earthquakes in Turkey/Syria and NepalHur, Hricane Irma in USA, typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and flood in Brazil; Beirut Port explosion; Armed conflict in Sudan; Displaced populations (refugees) among other crises affecting kidney care in collaboration with other Renal Societies (ASN, ERA). This lecture will contain an overview of the ISN RDPWG and its evolution, its current activities and plans, its working model, ongoing high-level initiatives chief among them the "Collective Effort of ASN-ERA-ISN to Provide Relief to People with Kidney Diseases and Their Caregivers During Natural Disasters and Human Conflicts Throughout the World", and ISN active participation in the WHO-Global High-level Technical meeting on NCDs in humanitarian settings. It will also address the urgent need for national and regional societies to develop emergency - response plans for kidney patients/dialysis centers, and to pool resources and informational and guidance documents. |
