Objectives: This study aimed to determine the overall quality of life among hemodialysis out-patients with CKD in an HD center in a tertiary hospital during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic last March 2023 Methods: A cross sectional survey was administered on adult CKD hemodialysis outpatients at VSMMC Renal and Transplantation Center using the WHOQOL BREF questionnaire with domains on domains on physical health, psychological, social relationships, and environment. Clinical demographic profile was also determined for every respondent. A total of 81 respondents participated in the study. Mean scores were computed from each domain and interpreted using a scoring to reflect the quality of life. Results: Respondents were at an average with an age of 50 years old, Most of them were younger than 50 years old (50.6%), females (54.3%), married (64.2%), unemployed (91.4%), from the northern part of Cebu (45.7%), on hemodialysis for almost 3 years (71.4%), on hemodialysis once a week (63.0%), and riding a bus (59.3%) as mode of transportation. Majority had hypertensive nephrosclerosis (49.4%). Almost half (49.4%) of HD patients perceived a poor to very poor quality of life . Their social life was also worsening (41.9%). Some could not decide on if their environment is worse or better (39.5%). Age and how they perceived their environment are significantly associated, x2(20)=40.670, p=.004 Conclusions: The overall quality of life in hemodialysis patients with CKD during COVID-19 pandemic was poor as measured through the WHOQOL-BREF Questionnaire. |
