Background: This study was conducted using a self-reporting questionnaire to compare emotional labor, job satisfaction and chronic kidney disease (CKD) patient orientation of nurses between outpatient department (OPD) and ward in nephrology including dialysis room.
Methods: The study was conducted on nurses who were working in the OPD and wards of 6 University Hospitals in Incheon area for 1 years or longer. The self-reporting questionnaire was provided to the nurses with a goal of collecting 115 and 115 answered questionnaires from the OPD and the ward. The survey using the self-reporting questionnaire was performed from July 1, 2015 to September 15, 2015.
Results: A total of 230 nephrology nurses participated in the survey, consisting of 115 from the OPD and 115 from the ward. The mean age of the OPD nurses was 36.5 years, whereas that of the ward nurses was 30.0 years. 3. As for differences in emotional labor, job satisfaction, and CKD patientorientation according to general characteristics, no significant difference was found between the two groups according to age, marital status, education, religion, total clinical experience, clinical experience at present job, job position, salary, and working type (p>.005). No significant correlation was found between emotional labor, and job satisfaction in the OPD nurses(r=0.07, p=-.055), and in the ward nurses(r=0.12, p=.171). No significant correlation was found between emotional labor, and customer orientation in the outpatient nurses(r=-0.06, p=.558), and in the ward nurses(r=-0.17, p=.060). A significant positive correlation was found between job satisfaction and patient orientation in the outpatient nurses(r=0.216, p=.021), and in the ward nurses(r=0.48, p=<.001).
Conclusion: Emotional labor of the nurses did not correlate with job satisfaction and patient-orientation. The reason appears to be the negative emotions arising during the conflicting situations allow deeper comprehension of the patients and understanding that one of the organization and assigning Empowerment expected to produce higher quality of Job satisfaction and CKD patient orientation. |
