For the proper interpretation of renal biopsies, pathologists and nephrologists should cooperate. Renal pathologists should know clinical situation, nephrologists' point of view, and clinical impact of pathological diagnosis. Nephrologists also should have basic knowledge on how pathologists interprete renal biopsy slides. This lecture will cover basic terminologies and histologic features which are important in understanding renal pathology. Instead of disease-oriented approach, I will introduce common patterns of renal injury; patterns of glomerular injury, tubulointerstitial injury, and vascular injury, and their clinical significance. After attending this lecture, nephrologists will be able to understand daily pathology reports in a fresh way and their cooperation with pathologists will be more fruitful. |
