Intraadialytic hypoxemia is associated with higher all-cause hospitalization and mortality. Hypoxemia is the common terminal pathway such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure and sleep apnea. These are particularly prevalent in patients on dialysis. Regardless multiple etiologies, hypoxemia and hypoxia are associated with a host of acute and chronic effect on multiple organ system, including the cardiovascular system, wound healing, proinflammatory pathways, and the central nerves system. Health care provider should find the possible causes of incidental hypoxemia in dialysis patients and try to correct these. |
