초록	Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr) is one of the plants majorly living in West Sulawesi that can be used to cure kidney inflammation diseases and hypertension by Mandar people. This research aims to deeply study the effectiveness of the plant as a traditional herb that may cure kidney inflammation diseases and hypertension. Method used in this research was the qualitative method. Data were collected by interviews, observations, and literary studies related to bioactive content in Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr). The finding showed that: 1) Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr) contained Vitamin B1, Phosphor, Beta carotene, Terpenoid, Tiroid, and Dioscorin; 2) The high Beta carotene in Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr) root contained an antioxidant effect when combined with grass roots (Imperata cylindrica (L.)) and ‘Daun Sendok” (Plantago major (L.), it could cure kidney inflammation diseases; and 3) Dioscorin in Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr) root produced an anti-hypertension effect and when simultaneously combined with celery (Apium graveolens), it could cure hypertension. Based on the results concluded a Ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr) was one of the effective traditional herbs that could be used as alternative medicine to cure both kidney inflammation diseases and hypertension.
