제목	Therapeutic efficacy of Ayurvedic formulations in STZ induced diabetic Wistar rats

초록	The aim of the current study was to study the anti-diabetic effects of twenty one herbal formulations (PRI-1) against streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Type 2 diabetes induced wistar rats were administered 8 ml of aqueous extract of Ayurvedic formulations extracted from 100 gm “PRI-1” powder twice a day for 21- day. All the biochemical estimations were done at two different intervals, one after the induction of diabetes and second after completion of 21- day therapy. Daily administration of the “PRI-1” extract for 21- day (twice a day) resulted in significant reduction of blood glucose levels, significant increase in plasma insulin levels and high-density lipoprotein. Associated parameters like total cholesterol, triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein levels were reduced. It also reduces the level of urea, uric acid and creatinine level. Significant improvement in the biochemical markers of oxidative stress was also observed. This extract shows the considerable effect on Degree of DNA damage & recovery. The finding of the current study suggest that herbal formulation “PRI-1” is beneficial in improving glucose and lipid homeostasis in type 2 diabetes and helps to protect against oxidative stress.
